Tension still alarming between the defunct Cameroon Music corporation and the newly created SOCAM on who to execute Author's Rights in Cameroon
SOCAM – CMC saga: Cameroon Artists muster for SOCAM
Minister of Culture Mrs Ama Muna Tutu Board
Chairs of four copyright corporations in Cameroon have pledged their
support to the Cameroon Civil Society for Musical Arts, SOCAM. This
support is contained in a join communiqué signed last week by the Board
Chairs of;
- SOCILADRA for literature and dramatic arts
- SOCAM for music
- SCAAP for audiovisual and photographic arts
- SOCADAP for visual and graphic arts
The released warned against defaulters and commended measures taken by the Minister of Culture, Ama Tutu Muna to bring sanity to the management of author’s rights in Cameroon.
The release followed a public reminder from the Minister of Culture which stated that the Cameroon Music Corporation is no longer in charge of Musical Arts Royalties.
The Minister of Culture also called on all Cameroonian Artist at home and abroad to stand for the legality represented by SOCAM.
SOCAM according to the reminder is the sole author’s rights corporation authorized to collect, manage and distribute Royalties to music artist.
